Apple diversifies its supply chain by manufacturing high-end iPhones in India

Apple has expanded its manufacturing footprint to India by starting production of its newest iPhone models, including premium iPhone Pro series. This shift comes as a result of growing geopolitical risks and advancements in India’s manufacturing capabilities. While India has previously focused on producing lower-end iPhones, the country now plays a more significant role in Apple’s global supply chain. In 2023 and the first half of 2024, India produced a substantial number of iPhones, which are not only sold domestically but also exported internationally. However, the transition is gradual, with a majority of new iPhones still being assembled in China. Additionally, Apple is set to equip all its iPhones launched post-2025 with OLED displays, a departure from its previous strategy of using LCD panels for lower-priced models.
