Intel is mulling a spin-off of its chip fabrication division

Intel is seeking help from investment banks to navigate one of the most challenging periods in its 56-year history. The chip giant is exploring various options, including splitting its chip design and manufacturing businesses and canceling some of its chip factory projects. Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs, Intel’s long-time banking partners, have been providing advice on a range of possibilities, including potential acquisitions. Discussions have intensified since Intel released a disappointing earnings report earlier this month. Intel’s current market capitalization is $86 billion, which has dropped it out of the top ten global chipmakers. In 2021, Intel’s revenue was three times that of Nvidia, but by 2024, Nvidia’s revenue is expected to double Intel’s.
